1:  Whitesands Bay

Whitesands Bay beach in Pembrokeshire

20 miles (one hour) north of Broad Haven.  A huge expanse of sand makes this an ideal beach for paddling and swimming, with views of Ramsey Island and several smaller islets.  Long, lazy, Atlantic rollers make the west-facing Whitesands beach popular with body-boarders, surfers, windsurfers and sea kayakers.

2:  Newgale Sands

Newgale beach in Pembrokeshire

Just 10 miles (30 minutes drive) north of the cottages, Newgale Sands is one of the best family beaches in Wales!  Newgale boasts over two miles of pebble-backed sand (pebbles only at high tide), with acres of space and a Westerly aspect. . .  making it hugely popular with surfers, bodyboarders and kite-surfers alike.

3:  Nolton Haven

Nolton Haven beach, Pembrokeshire

Drive 6 miles (15 minutes) north to find the small cove of Nolton Haven.  Facing south-west, the beach is made up of sand and shingle with rock pools and cliffs on either side, making its clear, sheltered, waters ideal for snorkelling, swimming and paddleboarding.  Beach side facilities are limited, although there is a pub!

4:  Broad Haven

Right on your doorstep, Broad Haven is a hugely popular and easily accessible family beach, with ample parking (that you won't need of course!) and tons of beach side facilities.  Its very popularity, however, means that Broad Haven beach can become crowded at peak times, or when the tide is high.

5:  St Brides Haven

St Brides Bay, Pembrokeshire

Just 6 miles (15 minutes drive) south is the hidden gem of St. Bride's Bay.  Sheltered from Atlantic swells, this narrow inlet of white sand has a hoard of rock pools to explore when the tide is in.  With parking right on the waterline, crystal clear waters and a host of marine wildlife, St. Brides is one of the most popular SCUBA shore diving locations in Pembrokeshire. . .  and perfect for snorkelling!

6:  Marloes Sands

Marloes Sands beach, Pembrokeshire

10 miles south (20 minutes by car) is the impressive expanse of Marloes Sands.  Low tide reveals over a mile of unspoiled sand and rock formations, sloping gently into the Atlantic Ocean.  Although access is only possible via a steep cliff footpath from the National Parks carpark above, Marloes Sands is hugely popular for wild swimming, body boarding, rock pooling. . .  and fossil hunters, the cliffs being designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

7:  Sandy Haven

Sandy Haven beach, Pembrokeshire

Sandy Haven is 8 miles (15 minutes) south, on the banks of the River Cleddau. . .  meaning that it is very sheltered, but can be subject to currents as the tide turns.  Although Sandy Haven is a rocky beach, a wide stretch of sand is exposed at low tide and there are plenty of living rock pools throughout the tidal range.

8:  Freshwater West

15 miles south (1 hour) across the estuary is Freshwater West, a wide sand and rock beach with a rocky reef at the southern end and quiet bays at the other. . .  made world famous in the film 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', where it was the location of Dobby's Shell House (removed after filming), but with Dobby's grave still hidden somewhere in the dunes!  Find out more in our as seen on screen page :o)

9:  Broadhaven South

Broad Haven South beach, Pembrokeshire

At 22 miles distant (1 hour), Broadhaven South (not to be confused with your Broad Haven!) is a more remote south-facing beach with dramatic cliff views, backed by sand dunes and expansive National Trust woodland.  Just a mile from an interesting nature walk around Bosherston Lily Ponds.

10:  Barafundle Bay

Barafundle Bay beach, Pembrokeshire

20 miles south (1 hour's drive) is the pristine, isolated, beach at Barafundle Bay.  With golden sand and crystal waters, Barafundle Bay is often compared to the Caribbean which means that, in high summer, the National Trust car park fills up quickly.  All of the facilities listed are to be found in the nearby Stackpole village.

11:  Tenby North

Tenby North Beach, Tenby, Pembrokeshire

20 miles southeast (1 hour) is the mecca for holiday shopping, Tenby.  The golden sands of North Beach is overlooked by the promenade and Tenby town, whilst beyond the Harbour is Tenby South beach. . .  two miles of unbroken sand backed by unspoiled dunes, Tenby South is less developed, but still has its own long-stay car park, restaurant, bar and takeaway food kiosks.

12:  Saundersfoot

Saundersfoot beach, Pembrokeshire

Also 20 miles (1 hour) away, just north of Tenby, is the hugely popular family resort destination of Saundersfoot.  With a broad, gently sloping sandy beach (part of which still remains at high water) and a picture perfect harbour, Saundersfoot beach is ideal for swimming, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, bodyboarding and fishing.
